Achieving weight goals is so important that, 2 out of every 5 women and 1 out of every 5 men would give up three to five years of their life to achieve them, according to University of Colorado, Student Groups. Achieving a healthy weight is important, but you can do things at home to achieve weight loss while also improving your health. The health benefits can lead to a longer life in addition to a slimmer figure.

Bake with Whole-Wheat Flour

Use whole-wheat flour instead of white flour when you bake. This will increase the nutritional value of your food while also increasing your fiber intake. The increase in fiber will help you to feel full on small serving and help you stay full longer.

Make Time for Breakfast

Taking the time to eat breakfast can mean the difference between unnecessary weight gain and weight loss. Breakfast helps to get your metabolism up and running at the beginning of each day, which will increase your calorie burn. Eating breakfast can also help reduce your chances of overeating at the next meal.

Stick to Calorie-Free Beverages

Liquid calories can quickly lead to weight gain; it is easy to lose track of how much you consumed. According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the largest source of calories in the average American's diet comes from soft drinks.

Avoiding drinks that contain calories can decrease your overall calorie intake and help you lose weight. Common high-calorie drinks to avoid include alcohol, sugary sodas, sports drinks, juices and sugary coffee drinks. Drink calorie-free beverages such as water, unsweetened tea, black coffee or diet soda.

Pop In Some Gum

When you have a craving for a food or you finished a meal, put a piece of minty sugar-free gum in your mouth. Chewing on a piece of sugar-free gum can help you avoid giving into your craving and it can help you avoid overeating at a meal.

Reduce Your Portion Size

Shrink portion sizes by using smaller plates. Smaller plates allow you to put less food on them initially. The small plate size will also trick your brain into thinking that it is getting enough food because it fills the plate. When you use larger plates, you're more likely to fill them up and eat more than you should.

Eat Soup

Eating soup for a meal can provide you with a satisfying and filling alternative to a high-calorie meal. Choose vegetable soups that are not made with cream or look for a meat soup that is low in calories. Make sure the soup contains a variety of vegetables. The mixture of high fiber and water content of the soup will help you feel full on fewer calories and it will keep you feeling full longer.
