NutriSystem is a weight loss plan consisting of prepackaged food that is supplemented with fruits, vegetables, milk and yogurt, according to "NutriSystem Nourish: The Revolutionary New Weight-Loss Program." The NutriSystem weight-loss plan is designed to assist dieters in losing weight gradually, at a rate of 1 lb. to 2 lbs. per week. If the cost of NutriSystem has deterred you from giving this weight-loss program a try, or you simply don't care for the meals offered by NutriSystem, you may choose to substitute Lean Cuisine frozen meals for NutriSystem's prepackaged meals.

Step 1

Purchase Lean Cuisine meals that are 300 to 350 calories each if you are a woman and 400 calories to 450 calories each if you are a man. According to "NutriSystem Nourish: The Revolutionary New Weight-Loss Program," these are the approximate caloric values of the meals in the NutriSystem meal delivery program.

Step 2

Eat three Lean Cuisine meals daily. Supplement each Lean Cuisine meal with non-starchy vegetables. "Contemporary Nutrition" notes that broccoli, lettuce, cabbage and peppers are all examples of non-starchy vegetables.

Step 3

Eat two servings of fruit each day, as called for in the NutriSystem weight loss program, according to "NutriSystem Nourish: The Revolutionary New Weight-Loss Program." A serving of fruit is equivalent to a cup of berries or melon, a small apple or orange or half of a banana.

Step 4

Consume three servings of low-fat dairy, such as skim milk or yogurt. If you desire, your fruit and dairy servings may be enjoyed together as a snack. For example, you may wish to have some fruit with a low-fat yogurt dip.
