During the cold winter months, riding a bicycle outdoors may be uncomfortable, and even cause illness. However, stopping your daily bicycle exercise routine is not an option if you're an avid cyclist who does not want to spend extra money on a separate stationary bike. A normal bicycle can easily be transformed into an indoor stationary exerciser, with a bicycle trainer and a few other items that can be found at a bike shop.
Step 1
Place an exercise mat on the floor where you plan to set up your stationary bicycle, preferably on a flat, stable surface.
Step 2
Place the bicycle trainer onto the exercise mat, leaving enough room for the front end of your bicycle.
Step 3
Set the back wheel of your bicycle into the bicycle trainer, and secure in place.
Step 4
Set the front wheel of your bicycle onto a riser block to adjust the incline.
Step 5
Check the stability of your bicycle before you exercise. This will reduce the risk of injury, as well as the risk of damaging your bicycle or other materials used to set up your stationary bike.
Tips and Warnings
- Not using a riser block may create a downward incline. However, using a riser block is not required.
- Stay hydrated when using an indoor stationary bicycle, as dehydration can often go unnoticed in a temperature-controlled environment.
