Healthy breakfast solutions don't have to be difficult. They can be made easily and quickly. Beginning the day with a healthy breakfast is important for more than one reason. It not only refuels the body but also serves as the ultimate metabolism booster. Breakfast shouldn't be delayed and should never be skipped. Creating the habit of eating nutritious foods shortly after waking up lays a healthy foundation for the rest of the day.

Benefits

When you eat for the first time each day, your metabolism revs up and the body begins burning calories faster. Eating breakfast supplies you with energy to begin your day, allows you to be more productive and ultimately helps create a healthy eating pattern. Incorporating a lean protein, a whole grain and some fruit gives your breakfast the components you need to obtain these benefits.

Effects

After not taking in any calories all night while you sleep, your metabolism has slowed down to be efficient. Eating breakfast when you wake will re-charge it for the day. Healthy food supplies the body and the brain with the energy needed to move through the day more productively. Beginning your day with more energy usually results in more energy throughout the rest of the day as well.

Cereals

The cereal solution is to look for brands that are high in fiber and low in sugar. Some also contain a decent amount of protein. Using skim, soy or almond milk on your cereal adds more protein and keeps this meal low in fat. Some of these cereals contain nuts already, but if not, a handful of raw, slivered almonds or pecans can add healthy fats. An 8 oz. glass of calcium-loaded, natural orange juice tops off this quick and simple breakfast.

Smoothies

A breakfast shake is a healthy breakfast solution that is packed with nutritious ingredients. A smoothie made with a cup or two of sliced fruits, 6 oz. of water or soy milk, a scoop of whey protein powder, 4 to 6 oz. of low-fat yogurt and a few ice cubes can be for a fast, healthy breakfast.

Popular Breakfasts

An egg on a toasted English muffin is a popular and healthy breakfast. Fry an egg in a teaspoon of olive oil, and toast a whole-grain English muffin. Place the egg between the slices of English muffin, and top it with a slice of low-fat cheese. Slice a corner of a cantaloupe and pour a glass of fruit juice for your fruit servings for a healthy, balanced meal.

The breakfast burrito also is a way to get a nutritious breakfast. In a pan sprayed with fat-free olive oil, scramble two eggs and mix in 2 tbsp. of low-fat cheese, 1/2 of a sliced red pepper, 1/2 of a sliced green pepper, and 2 tbsp. of diced onion. Poor this blend onto a whole-grain wrap and top it with salsa. Eating a healthy breakfast helps satisfy the body longer, and decreases the chance that you will overeat later in the day.
