The company Planters began in 1906 and produces hundreds of peanut and other nut products. The classic product, Planters Roasted Peanuts, is a healthy addition to your diet. When eaten in moderation, peanuts provide fiber, vitamins, minerals and protein along with healthy fats.

Calories and Macronutrients

A 1 oz. serving of Planters Salted Peanuts contains 160 calories. It offers 14 g of fat, 2 g of which are saturated. Planters peanuts contain 5 g of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber and 7 g of protein per serving.

Additional Nutrition Information

Planters Salted Peanuts provide 200 mg of potassium. They also offer 15 percent of the recommended dietary allowance for vitamin E, niacin and copper, based on a 2,000-calorie diet. The peanuts contain 10 percent of the RDA for phosphorus and magnesium. Peanuts provide 2 percent of the bone-building mineral calcium.

Sodium Considerations

Planters Salted Peanuts contain 190 mg of sodium per 1-oz. serving. The Institute of Medicine recommends consuming just 1,500 mg of sodium daily. If you are concerned about sodium content of Planters Peanuts, consider the Lightly-Salted version which offers just 95 mg of sodium per serving.

Weight Gain Concerns

Although peanuts are high in calories and fat, they do not seem to cause weight gain when added to your diet. The "Journal of Nutrition" in September 2008 published research noting that when peanuts are added to people's diets, they tend to compensate by eating fewer calories at other times during the day. Peanuts, and other nuts, may not be fully absorbed also causing them to not cause weight gain.

Healthy Fats

Most of the fats in peanuts are heart-healthy unsaturated varieties. The American Heart Association recommends consuming at between 25 and 35 percent of your daily calories from unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats may also help lower cholesterol, particularly when eaten instead of saturated or trans fats. Use peanut butter instead of cream cheese on bagels. Peanut butter may be used as a pancake or waffle topping instead of butter.
