The number of calories you burn while brushing your hair depends on your weight and the amount of time you spend brushing. Hair brushing is considered a sedentary activity -- it won't increase your heart rate -- and will burn few calories.

Formula

Metabolic equivalent, known as MET, is a number that represents your energy output. The formula used to determine how many calories burned doing a specific activity is (MET x 3.5 x weight in kg) ÷ (200) x (amount of time in minutes brushing your hair) = calories burned. To convert your weight to kilograms, divide your weight in pounds by 2.2. If you weigh 130 lbs., your weight is 59 kg.

Activities Tracking Guide

Hair brushing is categorized as either "inactivity quiet" or "inactivity light" on the Compendium of Physical Activities Tracking Guide. The MET value for hair brushing is estimated at 1.01.

Calories Burned

A 130-lb. person will burn 10 calories while brushing her hair for 10 minutes. A 130-lb. person with short hair will burn barely one calorie for brushing his hair in under a minute.
