One cup of raw coconut provides 283 calories. Protein in this serving size is 3 g, carbohydrate 12 g and fat 27g. Coconut is a good source of iron according to the University of Florida.

Features

Almost all of the calories in coconut stem from fat, 27 g of which are saturated. One cup of coconut also provides 3 g of fiber, 3 mg of vitamin C, 160 mg potassium, 12 mcg folate and 4.5 mcg selenium.

Fun Facts

To crack open a coconut, place it in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. Using a hammer, tap the coconut firmly in order to easily break open the shell. Seperate the brown covering from the coconut meat while the coconut is still warm.
