Overview

Prelief is an over-the-counter supplement used to help decrease heartburn and acid irritation inside the stomach. Instead of eliminating the acid in the stomach, Prelief works by reducing the acids directly in the foods, leaving the acid in the stomach untouched. Two tablets are taken each time you eat and may be purchased in grocery and drug stores. If you experience heartburn or indigestion, consult with your physician or health care provider prior to taking Prelief, especially if you take other prescription medications.

Calcium

Each Prelief tablet contains 130 mg of calcium. When a full dosage of two tablets is taken, 26 percent of the daily recommended value of calcium is ingested. Calcium is a used to neutralize acidity and, for that reason, is often a primary ingredient in antacids. It helps to relieve symptoms of heartburn and indigestion. Side effects of calcium include stomach upset, constipation, dry mouth and a loss of appetite. It is important to avoid using iron supplements within two hours before or after taking Prelief to prevent full absorption of both minerals.

Phosphorus

Prelief contains 10 percent of the recommended daily value of phosphorus in each tablet. Each full serving contains 200 mg. Phosphorus also acts as an antacid, working with calcium to treat and help prevent heartburn and acid indigestion. Phosphorus side effects are rare, but they may include confusion, muscle cramps, anxiety and weight gain.

Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium stearate is an ingredient used in many vitamin and supplement products. It helps the ingredients within the product to maintain their consistency once manufactured. It also helps to keep the ingredients from sticking to the machines used to produce the supplements. This ingredient is purely for the manufacturing process and to retain the quality of the product.
