How to Get Your Wife to Go on a Diet

The exact words you use when coaching your wife that it is time to lose some weight can make the difference between you sleeping on the couch and you helping your wife achieve weight loss goals with a smile and sexy determination. There are mature and easy ways to bring up this topic with her.

Step 1

Don't emphasize your wife's physical appearance. Instead, focus on her health and the ability to do fun, physical things with you.

Step 2

Make weight loss and physical fitness a team effort. Don't tell your wife that she alone needs to go on a diet. Rather, ask her if she wants to join you on a journey to better your health as a couple. Join a co-ed soccer league or take a healthy cooking course together. Even if you do not need to lose weight, there is always room for improvement and maintenance in physical fitness.

Step 3

Cook for your wife. Offer to make healthy meals several nights a week. Avoid fast food and chain restaurants. Get the junk food out of the house. Your wife may resent you if you sit there and eat junk food while expecting her to eat celery and carrots.

Step 4

Plan fun activities. Ask your wife to join you on a biking or hiking trip. Visit museums, zoos and aquariums or partake in walking tours to get moving. Consider your wife's interests. If she likes to shop, take her window shopping. Look at cute women's clothes and offer to buy some (without condemning her for her weight). This might motivate her to slim down so she can look good in clothes if you acknowledge and appreciate these things.

Step 5

Make her feel beautiful and loved. You married your wife because you love who she is, not what she looks like. However, looking your best can help keep the spice in a marriage. Point out things about her appearance that you do like because she will realize that appearance is important in a relationship. This may help her feel motivated to lose some weight. If you don't ever acknowledge her looks, she may feel it doesn't matter.

Tips and Warnings

  • If your wife is extremely overweight or obese, her health is at risk. Try to compassionately tell her about the health effects of being overweight and emphasize how you want her to stay alive for a long time because you love her. Tell her you are there to support her weight loss efforts, and follow through with it.
