The number of calories in a scoop of ice cream depends on the size of the scoop and the type of ice cream. Ensure that your chocolate craving doesn't affect your waistline too much by looking for brands with fewer calories and fat grams.

Calories and Fat

According to the company website, Haagen Dazs chocolate ice cream contains 260 calories and 17 g of fat per a 4-oz. scoop. In contrast, Breyer's Smooth and Creamy chocolate ice cream contains only 110 calories and 3.5 g of fat per scoop.

Considerations

When measuring ice cream, be sure to read the label for the appropriate serving size, which is usually 1/2 cup. Filling a bowl with ice cream may fill you with double or triple the calories and fat listed per serving.

Benefits

While chocolate ice cream is not a snack that you should indulge in every day, a scoop can provide you with vitamin A, calcium and protein. Top your ice cream with fresh fruit, such as strawberries, for a vitamin boost.
