For most of us, the hardest part of dieting is beating the cravings for food we shouldn't be eating. Many of us eat larger portions of food than we need. However, you can find ways to help your dieting or weight loss goals, naturally. Many dietary appetite suppressants contain ingredients that may cause side effects, leading many to choose natural herbs that suppress appetite but are not harmful to health. However, consumers should know that, as with other medications or supplements, too much of a good thing may cause side effects. When using natural herbs for appetite control, adhere to dosage guidelines or standards offered by health care professionals or package instructions.

Garcinia Cambogia

Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine have long touted the use of garcinia cambogia, a fruit native to southern India as appetite suppressant and as a metabolism booster. It is used to help inhibition of lipogenesis or the creation of fat cells in the body and for helping control cholesterol and obesity by preventing synthesis of cholesterol and fats, reports Indo-World.com

Bee Pollen

According to research performed at the Institute of Apiculture in Russia, bee pollen has been known and used to not only stimulate the metabolism, but to curb appetite. Bee pollen contains phenylalanine, a natural appetite suppressant. A teaspoon daily has helped many individuals increase the ability of their body to burn fat for fuel, and to reduce their appetite, leading to more effective food portion control. The Natural Standard, Authority on Integrative Medicine also states that the ancient Chinese have long used bee pollen to reduce cravings for alcohol and sweets.

Chickweed

Chickweed is also known as stellaria media and can be sprinkled on foods to help decrease the appetite. Chickweed can be taken in tea or in capsules, three times a day with water to help curb appetite and has been used in its native Europe for generations, reports the website Wcyh.org.uk.

Fennel

Fennel, a common cooking herb, is known in natural or alternative medicine to curb appetite with a history that goes back to the Middle Ages. In the time of the ancient Greeks, writings by a British herbalist named Culpepper stated that fennel "are much used in drink or broth to make people lean that are too fat." Fennel seed can be brewed into a tea, but is not recommended for nursing mothers.
