Although some people dislike feeling drunk, others enjoy the feeling of intoxication. While alcohol is the only substance that provides this feeling, you can choose low-calorie options when you watching your weight.

Beer

On average, a 12-oz. serving of regular beer can deliver between 120 and 150 calories. However, there are a variety of light beers that contain less than 100 calories.

Wine

White wine tends to have the least amount of calories in the wine selection, with roughly 75 calories per 4-oz. serving. The same serving size of red wine has about 80 calories, champagne has 84 and sweet wine has about 105 calories.

Liquor

Most liquors provide around the same amount of calories per 1-oz. serving. Brandy, cognac, gin, rum, tequila, vodka and whiskey have around 65 calories in 1 oz. Liqueurs, such as Cointreau or Kahlua, have around 188 calories per 1.5-oz. serving. The typical shot of liquor is 1.5 oz.

Considerations

Determining the best low-calorie alcohol option for you depends on your tolerance to the various types of alcohol. For example, some people can feel drunk off one glass of wine, yet require five cans of beer to get the feeling.
