Rose wine, also known as blanc de noir or vin gris, meaning "gray wine," is a type of wine that is pale in comparison to red wine. About 5 oz. of rose wine has 164 calories.
About
The Wine Institute reports rose wine has been popular since the 1970s. Winemakers use almost all varieties of red grapes when making rose wine. To produce the pale pink color of a rose, the grape skins can only have contact with the juice after the crushing process for about six to 24 hours. In the United States, where rose wine is also known as "blush," it's typically sweet and sometimes dry, according to the rose winemaker advocacy group, Rose Avengers and Producers.
Nutrients
The number of calories in rose wine will vary from bottle to bottle. According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, rose wine is low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. The calories in rose wine come predominately from sugar and alcohol.
Health Benefits
A variety of health benefits have been linked to red wine. Because antioxidant-rich grape skins are removed before fermentation, rose wine does not have the same heart-health benefits.
