Weight loss is tough when you try to do it alone. You may be able to make it a little easier if your boyfriend needs to lose a few pounds too. Create a partnership with your boyfriend, agreeing on a diet and exercise program that you can do together. You'll act as a mutual support system while you both learn healthy new habits that let you lose pounds and keep them off. Dieting together will improve your health and boost your self-esteem.
Step 1
Make goals and share them with each other. A goal gives you something specific for which to aim. There is an added layer of accountability when you share it with your boyfriend. Decide on regular check-ins to track your progress. For example, you and your boyfriend can agree to do a weekly weigh-in together.
Step 2
Eat home-cooked meals instead of going out to eat. If you used to go to restaurants on dates, take turns cooking for each other instead. Look for healthy recipes together. You can even cook a meal together as a fun activity.
Step 3
Exercise together. You can go to formal health club classes or simply do healthy activities like biking, running and walking with your boyfriend. Create an exercise schedule and hold each other accountable for following it.
Step 4
Support each other's efforts. Your boyfriend can become your cheerleader and you can cheer him on too. Celebrate successes together, and if one of you slips up, the other person should help the "slipper" figure out what went wrong and make a plan to prevent it in the future.
Step 5
Attend support group meetings together. Support groups are a good motivator for solo dieters, but they can also help people who are working as a team. Meetings will allow both you and your boyfriend to expand your support network and offer an extra dose of motivation. You'll be surrounded by other people with the same mindset as yours, which will reinforce your efforts.
