You can detoxify your body by eating particularly cleansing foods. Cornell College explains that your liver is in charge of detoxification of toxins you eat or come into contact with and eliminates them out of your body. If your liver is overwhelmed, it can lead to various illnesses and can be an underlying reason to weight gain or retention.

Garlic and Onions

Raw garlic has potent antibacterial enzymes and nutrients that clean your liver and assists in detoxification. The main two elements garlic contain are an enzyme called allicin and support the production of a vital antioxidant called glutathione. Glutathione is helps in rebuilding damaged cells and protects them against damage from cancer-causing compounds, medications and other toxins. The nutrients in garlic that help the production of glutathione is sulfur. Other sulfur-rich foods include onions and the cruciferous vegetables like collards, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, watercress and broccoli. Allicin works as an antibacterial against parasites and bacterial infections like H. pylori, according to "The Journal of Nutrition."

Wheatgrass

The potency of wheatgrass was publicized by Ann Wigmore, a nutrition expert and author of several books discussing the health benefits of drinking wheatgrass juice. She used it as a detox treatment for colon cancer on herself and after being cured, helped others. Wheatgrass juice offers a plethora of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants along with a nutrient called chlorophyll, which can help your body produce more hemoglobin and red blood cells to keep your blood oxygenated and free of toxins, according to The Dr. Oz Show. Consult your doctor about whether wheatgrass juice is a viable option for you.

Spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green algae and is typically available as a powder, capsule or tablet. The University of Maryland describes it as an antioxidant containing a good amount of vitamins, minerals and protein. The antioxidant type it has is carotenoids, which aids in preventing cell damage. It contains vitamin B complex, vitamin E, copper, manganese, zinc, selenium and iron.

Unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar

Unpasteurized apple cider vinegar is not only a flavorful vinegar for salads, it is also helpful in detoxifying your body. It regulates your pH level if your body is acidic. Parasites and harmful bacteria are not able to survive in a body that is alkaline.
