Even when you have the best intentions, it can be difficult to eat healthy foods when you live a busy life. You may not always have the time to plan and prepare the kinds of meals that make it easier to lose weight but you can still avoid eating fast foods and other unhealthy food choices. There are some easy foods you can eat each day that will allow you to get into better shape.
Step 1
Start your day with fast and easy breakfast foods that will rev up your metabolism for weight loss. Prepare a bowl of oatmeal or whole grain cereal and top it off with fresh or frozen fruit. Toast one or two whole-grain waffles and place a couple of your favorite fruits on top. If you are hungry for some protein at breakfast time, cook a couple of strips of turkey bacon along with two egg whites, or cook up a veggie omelet.
Step 2
Pack a lunch for your workday that will provide you with healthy foods for weight loss. Healthy eating requires consuming about 400 to 500 of your daily total of calories at lunchtime. Prepare a whole-wheat tortilla with grilled chicken, tuna salad or lean meat cold cuts. If you are preparing all your meals with the goal of losing weight in mind, you can pack weight-conscious serving sizes of leftovers from dinner the evening before.
Step 3
Cook evening meals that do not take a lot of time to prepare but still include a healthy level of calories for your weight loss goals. Grilled chicken, salmon and turkey burgers are fast and easy foods to prepare. They are low in fat, too. Cook up a pan of brown rice or steamed vegetables to go with your protein source.
Step 4
Dine out with healthy living in mind. Opt for salads, seafood, grilled foods and hearty vegetable soups when dining out. Jillian Michaels, fitness trainer for "The Biggest Loser," suggests asking if your food can be steamed, broiled or grilled rather than fried.
Step 5
Put away fattening snacks so that you can start to drop pounds. Snack on slices of vegetables, baby carrots and fruit salads. Yogurt, almonds, popcorn, fat-free pudding and unsalted pretzels also provide fast and easy snack ideas when you get hungry between meals.
Step 6
Whip up a smoothie when you feel hungry but do not have the time to prepare a meal. Fruit and vegetable smoothies provide a healthy approach to filling your tummy when you are in a hurry. Smoothies provide energizing nutrition when you are trying to lose weight (see Resources below).
