Women can take the same fat burners as men. Adding supplements to a well-balanced diet and exercise program can help increase fat loss by raising the metabolism and enhancing the use of fat as fuel. Although there are many fat burners on the market today, only a few are backed by research as effective for dropping body fat. Consult with your health-care provider before taking any supplements.
Soy Protein
Soy protein consumption might enhance fat loss on a calorie-reduced diet. Researchers from Taipei Medical University in the Republic of China studied the impact of a soy-based low-calorie diet versus a traditional low-calorie diet on weight control and body composition. Obese participants were assigned to a low-calorie diet rich in soy protein or a low-calorie diet rich in animal protein. At the end of the eight-week study, scientists found that the soy protein group experienced a greater decrease in body fat percentage compared to the animal protein group. These findings were reported in the August 2007 issue of the journal "Nutrition."
Butyrate
Butyrate might boost calorie burning on a high-fat diet. Zhanguo Gao led a team of researchers from the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana State University System and Utah State University who investigated the impact of butyrate on insulin sensitivity and calorie burning in laboratory mice. Obese animals were given a high-fat diet with butyrate supplementation. Scientists found that the subjects experienced increases in calorie burning and improved their insulin sensitivity, which results in the body using less insulin to store carbs as muscle glycogen. Less insulin in the blood increases fat burning, according to this, which was reported in the July 2009 issue of the journal "Diabetes."
Green Tea Extract
Green tea's high levels of antioxidants called catechins might enhance fat burning. Kevin Maki and colleagues from Provident Clinical Research Laboratory, Bloomington, Indiana, Meridien Research in St. Petersburg, Florida, Health Care Food Research Laboratory, Kao Corporation in Tokyo and the Antioxidants Research Laboratory, Tufts University examined the impact of green tea consumption on body composition in overweight and obese adults during exercise. Participants received a beverage containing 625 mg of catechins or a control beverage while undergoing exercise-induced fat loss. At the end of the 12-week study, the green catechin group lost more body fat, especially around the abdominal region, compared to the control group, according to research reported in the February 2009 issue of the "Journal of Nutrition."
