Organic foods may have fewer pesticides and additives, but they aren't a weight loss tool on their own. Organic foods contain similar nutrients as conventionally grown foods, according to MayoClinic.com, which means they also have the same amount of calories. Choosing organic foods may help you make better food choices, as the term "organic" typically applies to minimally processed foods like fruits and vegetables. In order to lose weight, you'll have to combine healthy, organic foods with exercise and weight training while also watching your calories.

Step 1

Build your diet around organic fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein sources. Add organic low-fat or fat-free dairy products to round out your meal plans. Stay away from processed foods and high-sugar, high-calorie, high-fat snacks, convenience foods and pre-prepared meals. Remember that organic doesn't necessarily mean healthy.

Step 2

Estimate the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight using a basal metabolic rate calculator like the one created by Scientific Psychic. Start at the amount you need to maintain your weight, then continue to reduce your calories by 100 per day until you notice a 1 to 2 lb. weight loss per week.

Step 3

Combine your healthy, organic diet with physical activity. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends 30 minutes of physical activity per week. Ride your bike, walk, run or even dance and play to get your heart rate up and burn calories.

Step 4

Lift weights, do yoga or Pilates or participate in strength-training exercises two to three days per week to build muscle mass. Muscle protects your bones and joints and makes you stronger, but it also enables you to burn more calories throughout the course of your day.

Step 5

Practice good self-care techniques that also contribute to weight loss. Get seven to nine hours of sleep per night, drink at least 64 oz. of water per day and give your body time to recover and recuperate after strenuous exercise. Address emotional problems that may lead you to eat and find fulfilling activities to prevent boredom eating.

Tips and Warnings

  • Consider growing your own organic food. Gardening burns anywhere from 100 to 300 calories per hour, depending on the activity and your weight, according to the Harvard School of Public Health.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting an exercise or diet program to make sure you're healthy enough to do so.
