Making a decision to lose weight and get in better condition can help you become a healthier and more productive person. While diet is a significant part of weight loss, exercise will help you keep the weight off and get your body in excellent shape.

Interval Training

Go to a track and perform interval sprinting to lose weight, burn calories and get in better condition. Sprint 100 yards. Return to the starting line and follow with a 90-yard sprint. Follow with 80- and 70-yard sprints. After you finish all four sprints, take a two-minute break and repeat the interval sprints. Perform one more double set of sprints.

Weight Training

Lift weights to get stronger and burn calories. Free weights provide the best training exercise because you have to balance them before you lift them. The bench press, arm curls, the dead lift, the Olympic press and lunges are excellent strength-building exercises. If you don't have access to free weights or don't have a partner who can help spot you when lifting heavy weights, do circuit training work. You can work out your back, shoulders, arms, chest, abs, core muscles, glutes, hamstrings and calf muscles on circuit training machines. If you don't have access to circuit training machines, you can do pushups, pull-ups and ab crunches.

Rope Jumping

Boxers use rope jumping to burn calories, build quickness and increase athleticism. The same exercise will also help any person trying to lose weight and get in better shape. Jump rope for three minutes at a time to burn calories and improve conditioning. Then take a one-minute break. Do this three times, trying to turn the rope faster with each three-minute turn of the rope.

Competitive Sports

Playing competitive sports will help you get in better shape and lose weight. A 200-lb. man, for example, burns 728 calories in an hour of playing basketball. When you are active in sports, your body has a chance to burn more calories than it takes in, and that will help you lose weight.
