The National Cancer Institute estimates that 200,000 Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. They also estimate that 40,000 Americans will die from breast cancer during that time. Breast cancer is most commonly found in the ducts or the lobes of the breast. Breast cancer can be a very frightening disease for many people, but there is a lot of information that can be mailed to you. The educational brochures and pamphlets are generally free from many different organizations.
Step 1
Talk to your physician. Most large medical centers have pamphlets with information about breast cancer that they can send to patients. Your physician can either tell you who to contact or can ask the medical center to send you whatever publications they have about breast cancer.
Step 2
Order publications from the Center of Disease Control and the National Cancer Institute. They have pamphlets about breast cancer that can be ordered from their websites. These publications are generally available free of charge unless you order a large quantity (twenty or more), in which case you may need to pay a small shipping fee.
Step 3
Contact non-profit organizations. Breastcancer.org, for example, offers an array of publications that can be sent to you, free of charge. These include publications about breast cancer in general, about metastatic breast cancer and about treatment.
