The Colonix and Almighty Cleanse products are promoted as effective methods of cleansing the colon and liver of harmful toxins. The Mayo Clinic explains that "proponents of colon cleansing believe that toxins from your gastrointestinal tract can cause a variety of health problems, such as arthritis, allergies and asthma." Although both products promote the same function, they are quite different. As with any dietary supplement, you should consult a physician before trying Colonix or Almighty Cleanse. Colon cleansing can put you at risk for dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

Colonix

According to the Dr. Natura website, Colonix utilizes a three-component syste, which the manufacturer claims "gently but effectively cleanses the colon of toxic waste, detoxifies the liver and restores regularity while helping you to gain more energy and a flatter stomach." The three components of the system include a fiber supplement, herbal capsules and herbal tea. The fiber supplement uses soluble and insoluble fiber to help wastes move through the colon for excretion. The herbal capsules are made with 18 detoxifying herbs, and the herbal tea is caffeine-free.

Almighty Cleanse

The Almighty Cleanse program utilizes a two-step system that claims to "help rid your colon of impurities before they're released and circulated throughout your body." The program's first formula uses fiber to encourage digestion and help wastes move out of the body. The second fiber is a blend of all-natural charcoal and unrefined herbs; this formula aims to remove excrement from the walls of the colon. The formulas contain no preservatives, bleaches or dyes.

Time Frame

The creators of the Colonix program recommend using the program for two or three consecutive months. Throughout each month, the fiber supplement, herbal capsules and herbal tea are consumed several times throughout the day. The Almighty Cleanse is a seven-day program. The program creators recommend repeating the cleanse every three months, along with the change in seasons.

Cost

In November 2010, Almighty Cleanse was being sold for approximately $70 for a seven-day supply through the Cleansed Colon website. A one-month supply of Colonix is sold for around $88 on the Dr. Natura website. However, customers receive special savings if they purchase more than a one-month supply. The two-month supply is sold for around $123 and the three-month supply is sold for around $177.

Considerations

As with all dietary supplements and herbal products, neither Colonix nor Almighty Cleanse has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). However, the Colonix website does claim that "our products are manufactured under the FDA's strict GMP quality control standards." Before beginning any type of detoxification program, consult a physician to ensure your health and safety. Detoxification or cleansing programs are generally not recommended for children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers or people with certain medical conditions.
