How to Treat Bird Flu

The bird flu, also known as avian influenza, is a debilitating condition characterized by typical flu symptoms like fever and cough. This particular flu is a condition normally found in birds but it has crossed species to affect humans.Treatment for the bird flu consists of antiviral medications and various home remedies.

Step 1

Go to your doctor as soon as you display flu symptoms like fever, runny nose or cough. He will assess whether you have bird flu.

Tell your doctor whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding or suffer from any medical problems.

Obtain a Tamiflu prescription if you have the bird flu. Take Tamiflu within 48 hours of the onset of your symptoms, as it is time sensitive.

Take one pill or liquid dose as prescribed by your doctor two times a day (one in the morning and one in the night) for five days.

Step 5

If you miss a dose, take the missed dose if it is within two hours of your next dose.

Step 6

Monitor whether you have any side affects like a severe skin rash and call your doctor if you do. Expect common side effects like nausea and vomiting.

Step 7

Make chicken soup and drink plenty of fluids like hot tea while you are taking antiviral medication. This will nourish and hydrate you to fight against infection.

Step 8

Take a day off from work or school to get plenty of rest. This will also decrease the spread of the bird flu.

Step 9

Take a steam shower. This will naturally cleanse your nasal passages and help your body fight against the flu.
