Improving your vertical jump can help your performance in nearly every sport. Building up your calf muscles will help you develop explosive power when you jump. The calf muscles are the most important when it comes to improving your leaping ability. Jumping higher will help you play better and give you more confidence when you take the field.
Rope Ladder
Increase your explosive leaping ability by jumping through a rope ladder course. In this drill, you set up a rope ladder in a 2 column by 12 square format. Each square is 2 feet by 2 feet and each square is 18 inches off the ground. Jump through each square by starting with the front left, front right, second right, second left, third left and so on in that manner. When you finish the course, go back to the start and repeat the drill.
Bounding
Go to the football field at your local high school. Start off at the goal line and push off your dominant foot so you go as high and as far as possible. When you land, do the same off your other foot. Do this for 20 yards. When you get to the 20 yard line, sprint 20 yards until you get to the 40. Then bound 20 more yards and continue in this pattern until you get to the goal line. You will bound 60 yards and sprint 40. Repeat this drill two times.
Jump Soles
Jump soles are training devices that attach to the front of your gym shoes and isolate the calf muscle. By exercising in them, you can help develop your vertical leap significantly. Go to the track and run in your jump soles. Run for 30 yards and then walk in them for 20 yards. Follow this pattern for 200 yards. Take a two-minute break and repeat the set.
