The American College of Sports Medicine estimates that over two thirds of American adults are classified as overweight or obese. Excess body weight can make daily life more challenging and increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, type II diabetes and even some forms of cancer. People are looking for ways to aid their weight loss and often turn to fat-burning supplements such as Lipo 6 for diet recommendations.
Lipo 6 Diet Recommendations
Lipo 6 is distributed by Nutrex Research as a fast-acting fat-burner. The label and website give specific instructions on how to take the product to get the most benefit and decrease the potential for side-effects. Nutrex advises combining Lipo 6 with a diet and exercise regimen, but does not give specific guidelines or recommendations. It only states that the product is meant to be used as an aid and not a "miracle pill."
Active Ingredients
Lipo 6 is based on 6 active ingredients: citrus aurantium, yohimbine HCL, coleus forskohlii, caffeine anhydrous, carnitrex and bioperine. The effectiveness of the ingredients is promising, but appears to need further research before any authority will say absolutely that a specific ingredient will produce weight loss. A study at Georgetown University Medical Center on citrus aurantium found that weight loss was increased on obese subjects that used the product and that it may be an alternative to ephedra. As for the Lipo 6 product, no statements made by the company have been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
Creating Weight Loss
To achieve weight loss, you need to create a caloric deficit by eating less calories than you burn on a regular basis. Increasing your levels of physical activity through planned exercise sessions and daily living will raise your metabolic rate so that you burn calories. Adjusting your diet will allow you to consume less calories so that the extra calories your body needs to function will come from your body fat stores. Over time, your weight will decrease and health will improve.
Diet Recommendations
Nancy Clark, MS, RD, recommends moderation and decreasing your caloric needs by 10 to 20 percent to produce weight loss. Decreasing your calories by a small amount can produce a decrease in body weight without you feeling as if you are starving or depriving yourself. Eat a balanced diet that includes carbohydrates, fats and protein for complete nutrition. Watch your portion sizes and include plenty of fruits and vegetables that are low in calories but high in water and fiber so that they leave you feeling full longer.
Exercise Recommendations
The American College of Sports Medicine recommends beginning with 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week to promote health and fitness benefits for obese people. Gradually increase this to 200 to 300 minutes each week to promote long-term weight loss. Combine cardiovascular and resistance training for the best results. Better weight loss results are seen when you combine diet and exercise rather than one or the other.
