The ProForm 400X is a motorized treadmill with a 2.25 horsepower motor that supports speeds up to 10 mph and an incline up to 10 percent. The treadmill folds-up to save space when you're not using it. The underside of the belt is coated with a high-performance lubricant at the factory so you never have to lubricate the belt. Other problems with the belt usually require some slight adjustments.
The Belt Slows
The belt may slow when you are using the treadmill. If this occurs, ProForm first recommends checking that you have plugged in the unit properly. You should use a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets the specifications outlined in the user's manual. Improper surging may cause the belt to slow. If your 400X is plugged in correctly, the walking belt may be too tight. Lift the middle of the belt on one side. If it does not lift off the deck at least 2 to 3 inches, the belt is too tight. Use the included allen wrench to adjust the rear roller bolts as directed in the user's manual.
The Belt Slips
If you feel the belt slipping under your feet as you are walking or running, the belt may be too loose. This may occur naturally over time as the belt stretches slightly. You can test the tension of the belt in the same manner listed above. Lift one side of the belt. If it lifts more than 2 to 3 inches off the deck, the belt is too loose. Use the included allen wrench to tighten the belt as instructed in the user's manual.
The Belt is Off-Center
Run the belt at medium speed. Stand at the end of the treadmill and watch to see if the belt slides to the right or the left. Depending on the direction the belt shifts, use an allen wrench to adjust left rear roller bolt as directed in the user's manual.
