A skin tag is nothing more than a small flap of skin that forms on your body. Skin tags are most commonly found in areas where movement occurs on a regular basis, such as under your arms or the inner part of your elbow, but they can appear on the face as well. A visit to your doctor for removal of your skin tag is ideal, but there are some remedies that can be performed at home if you are unable to see your doctor.
Step 1
Lather up a washcloth with soap and warm water to gently and thoroughly clean the area of your face that you will be treating. Be sure to get the area on and around the skin tag especially clean.
Step 2
Pat your face dry with a towel. It is important that your face is completely dry as the medication may not work properly on wet skin.
Step 3
Shake the bottle of salicylic acid topical lotion to ensure the contents are mixed together.
Step 4
Apply a small amount of the salicylic acid topical lotion directly to the skin tag.
Step 5
Place an adhesive pad directly on top of the skin tag if directed by the salicylic acid topical lotion.
Step 6
Follow the directions listed on the medication as it regards to the frequency of treatments and how long to leave the medication on your face before washing it off.
Step 7
Wait for the skin tag to fall off your face. As you continue to apply the salicylic acid topical lotion, you will notice that the skin tag will begin to dissolve. Once the skin that connects the skin tag to your face dissolves, the skin tag will simply fall off.
Tips and Warnings
- Be patient when using salicylic acid topical lotions. It may take multiple applications before the skin tag falls off. For the best results, apply the lotion according to the schedule on the packaging. If you miss a treatment, take it as soon as possible unless it is almost time for your next treatment.
- Skin irritation may occur if salicylic acid topical lotion is combined with other topical preparations. Avoid soaps and cleansers that are harsh and abrasive, such as astringents, tinctures and cleansers that include alcohol.
