The ProForm 535 treadmill is a lightweight, home-use 2001 model manufactured for sale in the United Kingdom and Europe. It must be plugged in to function. The digital console also requires two 1.5-V batteries, which come included with the treadmill. The ProForm 535 is an effective workout tool for walkers and joggers, but falls short if put to the demands of a heavy running workout.
Motor And Incline
The ProForm 535 has a 1.5 horsepower motor, with a maximum belt speed of 8 mph. This is enough to challenge walkers and joggers, but runners should look for a treadmill that provides speeds of at least 10 mph. The 535 also motor-adjusts up to a 10 percent incline setting.
Safety Features
The ProForm 535 comes with a safety key. The treadmill will not start unless the safety key is fully inserted in the console. This protects small children from accidental injury if they play on or try to use the treadmill, and also protects you in the event of a fall. Attach the safety clip, which connects to the safety key via a lanyard, to the waistband of your pants or shorts when you start working out. If you fall, the lanyard will pull the key out of the console, automatically stopping the treadmill.
Other Features
The 535 comes with few other features. A thumb pulse monitor on the console estimates your heart rate, but you must stop walking and press your thumb to the monitor for about 15 seconds for it to work. You control the treadmill speed with an unusual slider control, but every time you restart the treadmill you must remember to move the slider down to the "Reset" position. The 535 also has a built-in water bottle holder in the console.
Size
The ProForm 535 measures 60.6 inches long by 26 inches wide by 50.4 inches high. The walking belt measures 15.7 inches wide by 45.3 inches long: Large enough for walking, but far too small for running. The deck folds vertically against the console supports when not in use. You must be able to safely lift at least 45 lbs. to raise the deck for folding.
Capacity And Electronics
The 535 has a maximum user weight capacity of 250 lbs., unremarkable for a home treadmill. The treadmill comes with two power cords designed for UK and European outlets, so you can select the power cord that fits your power outlets.
