The flu is a contagious infection, causing symptoms like fever, body aches, chills, dizziness, headaches, nausea and vomiting. The common cold is often mistaken for the flu but is much less severe and with fewer complications. Unlike a cold, the flu develops suddenly, leaving you feeling fatigued and generally ill within one to three days of exposure, according to fluFACTS.com. If the following recurrent symptoms are not a result of cold or flu, another illness, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, may be the cause. Check with your doctor when symptoms arise.

Fever

Recurrent flu symptoms are the result of a viral infection. As the body attempts to fight the infection, the body temperature will rise. Your body temperature may reach 101 degrees Fahrenheit (in adults). To help treat the flu, antiviral medications such as Tamiflu may be prescribed within the first few days of the onset of symptoms to help lower temperature.

Fatigue

Fatigue is another recurrent flu symptom. The general feeling of being tired, achy and lethargic is a hindrance for those with children to care for and other responsibilities that require energy and attention. However, rest is an important aspect of healing, helping the immune system recover from the illness. This is important to fight the flu.

Nausea & Vomiting

Recurrent flu symptoms may include stomach discomfort. Nausea and vomiting are obvious signs, which can be dangerous, resulting in dehydration. To stay well hydrated drink plenty of fluids. Popsicles and cool beverages may be helpful for providing hydration and cooling you down when an elevated temperature is also present. While eating may be difficult, bland foods are often more easily consumed. Consider crackers, toast and broth until nausea and vomiting subside.

Headache & Chills

A headache is not typically a symptom of the cold, making it more identifiable as a recurrent flu symptom. In addition, a person suffering with the flu may also experience the chills, which are uncommon among cold sufferers. To help relieve a headache, an over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol or Advil may be effective at relieving pain but will not speed recovery from the flu, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Congestion

Nasal congestion is a recurrent flu symptom. Elevating your head while in bed and sleeping with vaporizer may help ease breathing and promote rest.
