The CrossTrainer is a line of ProForm elliptical machines. Each CrossTrainer offers a lower- and upper-body workout. The elliptical motion of the pedals offers a low-impact alternative to a treadmill, while the arm levers provide an upper-body workout. The pulley is part of the elliptical drive system. The pedal crank arms connect to the pulley, which connects via the drive belt to the flywheel. Installing a pulley in a CrossTrainer elliptical requires removing several of the machine's parts.
Step 1
Unplug the CrossTrainer.
Step 2
Locate the bracket assembly that attaches the left pedal leg to the crank arm. Remove the bolt that holds the pedal leg in place. Pull the pedal leg away from the crank arm. Repeat on the right side.
Step 3
Remove the four screws holding the left pedal disc in place. This is the covering over the motor assembly. Repeat on the right side.
Step 4
Take off the crank screw that holds the left crank arm on the pulley. Pull the crank arm off the machine and set it aside. Repeat on the right side. This will free the pulley. Slide the pulley off its axle and remove it from the assembly.
Step 5
Slide the new pulley onto the axle. Reverse the steps to reassemble the elliptical.
