Giving a pedicure and manicure, which is a sedentary activity, still burns some calories. The number of calories burned depends on your weight and how long it takes to give the treatment.

Formula

Metabolic equivalent, or MET, is a number that represents energy expended while engaged in an activity, the American Heart Association explains. To calculate the number of calories burned while giving a manicure and pedicure, use this formula: (METs x 3.5 x weight in kg) ÷ (200) x amount of time in minutes. Calculate your weight in kilograms by dividing your weight in pounds by 2.2. If you weigh 135 lbs., for example your weight in kg is 61.3.

MET Value

The Compendium of Physical Activities Tracking Guide, developed by Stanford University doctor Bill Haskell, indicates that a sedentary activity that requires no walking, and very little movement, has a MET value of 1.5 to 1.8. Washing and massaging legs and feet has a MET value of 2.0.

Calories Burned

If you weigh 135 lbs., you can burn 48 to 64 calories while giving someone a manicure and pedicure for 30 minutes. If you weigh 150 lbs., you can burn 45 to 60 calories by giving a mani-pedi for 25 minutes.
