How to Lose More Weight in the Summer

You can lose more weight in the summer due to many factors. During the summer you have more options outdoors, you are past the temptation of seasonal holiday foods (be mindful of the Fourth of July BBQ) and good weather often makes it easier to get motivated. Also, daylight is usually longer in the summer giving you more time to be active outside.

Summer Foods

Step 1

Eat more fruits and vegetables during the summer. Fill up on fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew, mangoes and pineapples. Some of these fruits are only available during the summer so put them in your diet. Fruits are full of fiber, nutrients, vitamins and water, which are all a necessity for maintaining health in the summer heat.

Step 2

Drink plenty of water. Water is essential to regular exercisers, especially in the summer. Staying out in the sun can be draining to the body. You also tend to sweat more during the summer. Water keeps you hydrated and helps to regulate the body temperature, which is key in avoiding heat stroke. Carry a water bottle with you at all times.

Step 3

Opt for "sugar-free" items whenever possible or items made with 1 percent or skim milk. This will save you on the calories without sacrificing a popular summer treat, such as ice cream.

Exercising

Step 1

Partake in outdoor summer activities such as rollerblading, bike riding, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, swimming and horseback riding. The fresh air will help keep you invigorated.

Step 2

Walk, jog or run in beach sand, which will add resistance to your legs and activate the muscles. Exercising on the beach is a great way to sculpt your legs and burn calories.

Step 3

Swim laps in a pool. Swimming is a ideal cardiovascular exercise that is easy on the back and joints. Get active with a friend or family and do relays or different water sports like water polo. Make it fun while burning excess calories.
