Health issues like acid reflux and heartburn can force a change in how you eat and the types of foods you can eat. Eating small, frequent meals that are easily digested is helpful. Foods that are acidic, such as tomatoes and citrus fruits, and spicy and fried foods can be irritants. Drinks containing alcohol or caffeine may also worsen the symptoms of both. Gravitating toward foods such as vegetables, whole grains, fruits, beans and yogurt with beneficial bacteria can help to eliminate certain stomach issues and acid reflux.

Veggies and Beans

Creating a meal plan using foods that are easy to digest is key. Steamed vegetables and cooked beans are two of the best foods in this category. Broccoli and spinach offer other nutrients like vitamin K and a high dose of fiber, making them easily digestible. Pre-soaked beans and lentils that are cooked thoroughly also meet these requirements. Taking your time to eat each meal, cutting your food properly and chewing your food completely will allow you to digest your food better and help alleviate indigestion.

Whole Grains and Yogurt

Rice, breads and other whole grains also digest well, making them candidates for people suffering with stomach and digestive issues. Yogurt that is full of healthy bacteria is a digestive aid for the stomach that can be added to a meal or used as a snack. Spreading your meals out into four to six smaller meals per day rather than eating three large meals can also aid in weight loss and offer some relief from the symptoms that come with these conditions.

Digestive Enzymes

Fruits like papayas and pineapples have digestive enzymes that help with stomach problems and acid reflux. Digestive enzymes help the body push the digestive process along. Using these foods in your diet and focusing on nourishing your body, rather than rushing when you eat can have positive effects on acid reflux and similar problems with the stomach.
