Cardio machines like treadmills and elliptical trainers aren't the only way to lose weight. Carrying and piling wood, for example, burn enough calories to make a significant contribution to your weight loss.
Calorie-burn Estimates
According to Harvard Health Publications, if you weigh 125 lbs., a 1/2 hour of carrying and piling wood will burn about 150 calories. The heavier you are, the more calories you burn. If you weigh 185 lbs., for instance, you can burn as many as 222 calories in a 1/2 hour of the same activity.
Suggestions
Vigorous exercise burns more calories than moderate or low-intensity exercise. If you want to make piling wood part of your fitness routine, get the most out of it by safely hustling to pile the wood as quickly as possible. Try making a game out of it with a friend, vying to see who can create the biggest stack first.
Considerations
Chopping and splitting wood burns a significant number of calories, too. Harvard Health Publications estimates 180 calories burned in 30 minutes if you weigh 125 lbs., or 266 calories in 30 minutes if you weigh 185 lbs.
