Infertility is often looked at as a woman's problem. That is the case about 50 percent of the time, but when a couple is having trouble conceiving, it is sometimes the result of male fertility issues. Those issues can often be addressed by changes to the male diet that will help with sperm production, motility and quality.
Tomatoes and Pink Grapefruit
Tomatoes and pink grapefruit are both high in lycopene. Lycopene will increase both sperm count and motility. Motility is the ability of the sperm to swim and keep moving until it gets to the egg. It is recommended that having two servings of foods per day that include lycopene will help sperm count and motility.
Red Bell Peppers, Strawberries and Kiwi
Red bell pepper, strawberries and kiwi fruit are among the foods that are highest in vitamin C. That's important in terms of fertility because vitamin C is an antioxidant and because it prevents the sperm membrane from getting damaged as a result of oxidation. Keeping sperm from getting damaged will increases a couple's chances of getting pregnant.
Broccoli, Spinach and Avocados
Broccoli, spinach and avocados are high in folic acid. Folic acid has long been associated with improved female fertility. However, it will also increase sperm count and help men with reduced folate levels.
Turkey, Oysters and Crab
Turkey, oysters and crab are very high in zinc. Zinc is one of the most important hormones when it comes to sperm production, motility and quality. Having turkey, oysters or crab once per day can lead to a much greater chance of conception.
