How to Stop Smoking With Auricular Therapy

There are many therapies and methods available to help you quit smoking. Some people use a transdermal nicotine patch which releases nicotine into the body gradually. Others may use nicotine replacement therapy such as nicotine gum or lozenges. These may be accompanied by psychotherapy or hypnosis. There also is a non-nicotine treatment utilizing magnets placed on the ear or acupuncture at the same place.

Step 1

Acquire an ear magnet set. These ear magnets are sold primarily by Zerosmoke. The set consists of two magnets of two different sizes. They are noninvasive because they hold each other on the ear through magnetic attraction.

Step 2

Hold the larger of the two magnets behind the top part of your ear. The correct location is slightly back from the center. While holding the magnet, place the smaller of the two magnets on the front part of the ear opposite the larger magnet. Magnetic attraction will keep them in place.

Step 3

Continue to smoke while wearing the ear magnets for six days. This will allow you to become accustomed to them. It also will allow the magnets to begin their auricular therapy work. Auricular therapy, according to the magnet manufacturer, was developed by Paul Nogier in 1950. He determined that applying slight pressure to a certain area of the upper ear can help trigger the release of dopamine into the brain. Dopamine, which is responsible for a sense of pleasure and well-being, also is triggered for release by the nicotine in cigarettes.

Step 4

Stop smoking completely on the seventh day after you apply the ear magnets. Continue to wear the magnets for approximately three weeks. According to the manufacturer, there will no longer be a craving for cigarettes after this time.
