How to Use Creatine With a Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass is a surgical weight loss procedure in which food bypasses part of the small intestines. Commonly, the size of the stomach is also reduced. Since people that have had gastric bypass surgery only use part of their small intestines, dietary supplements are often required to ensure that they receive an adequate amount of nutrients, says "Contemporary Nutrition." Creatine is an amino acid produced in the liver that provides the muscles with energy. Synthetic creatine can be purchased in the form of capsules and pills to supplement your body's natural supply, says "Strength Training Academy." Consult your physician before using creatine or any other dietary supplement.

Step 1

Purchase creatine capsules, which can be located at many vitamin stores.

Step 2

Pull the two parts of a creatine capsule apart and pour the contents into a serving of yogurt. According to "Foundations of Nursing," chewable or liquid supplements or medications are preferred over pills and capsules for people with a gastric bypass to ensure that the greatest portion of the supplement or medication is absorbed by the body.

Step 3

Stir the creatine into the yogurt. Eat the yogurt with the creatine in it.

Tips and Warnings

  • Other soft foods, such as applesauce, may be substituted if you are unable to eat yogurt.
