Hemp hearts are shelled hemp seeds. Hemp hearts are rich in the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6. They are a complete protein and are rich in vitamins and minerals including A, D, E calcium and iron. They have a light and nutty flavor, making it easier to consume them raw with a variety of foods. Hemp hearts are a common alternative for those avoiding sugar, milk, nuts, gluten and meat.
Step 1
Add 1/4 cup of hemp hearts to your breakfast smoothies and protein shakes. Blend them for three minutes in a blender and add honey to taste.
Step 2
Add 4 tbsp. of hemp hearts to cottage cheese or dips, such as guacamole or hummus. You will barely notice the flavor, making it easier to feed to kids or picky eaters.
Step 3
Sprinkle 4 tbsp. of hemp hearts over your favorite oatmeal or cereal.
Step 4
Add 1/3 cup of hemp hearts to your favorite muffin, bread or pastry mixtures before baking.
Step 5
Sprinkle 1/3 cup of hemp hearts over layers of the meat and cheese in your homemade lasagna dishes before baking.
Step 6
Add 3 tbsp. of hemp hearts to a serving of hearty soup or stew.
Tips and Warnings
- Hemp hearts can turn rancid if kept in your shelf. Instead, store them in your fridge for up to three months.
