Some people fight a seemingly never-ending war with acne, spending exorbitant amounts of money on cleansers and creams. Commercial acne treatments, however, often contain harsh chemicals and sometimes produce redness and irritation. An inexpensive organic homemade cleanser that contains witch hazel can help clear your complexion and reduce accompanying pain and inflammation. A powerful astringent, witch hazel also alleviates insect bites and stings, cold sores and minor cuts and burns.

Step 1

Combine 1/4 cup witch hazel, 10 drops tea tree oil, 3 drops lavender oil and 1 tbsp. aloe vera gel in a small bowl until well blended.

Step 2

Saturate a cotton pad in the cleanser.

Step 3

Apply the cleanser to your entire face and neck, or dab over blemishes.

Step 4

Leave the cleanser on your skin for at least 10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry, or leave on throughout the day for a deeper cleaning.

Step 5

Use two to three times a day, or as needed.

Tips and Warnings

  • Slice open an aloe vera leaf and scoop out the gel with a spoon, or purchase bottled aloe vera gel.
