1. Change Your Lifestyle
"Celebrity Fit Club" features the Fat Smash Diet, which encourages you to choose the right foods, control your portions and add exercise to your lifestyle. Developed by Dr. Ian K. Smith, this diet takes participants on a four-phase journey to weight loss, whether it's 5 or 50 pounds you want to lose. Dr. Smith provides tips, recipes and calorie information in his book, "The Fat Smash Diet: The Last Diet You'll Ever Need," so you can easily track your intake. To get started with the Fat Smash Diet, you must dedicate 90 days to making it work.
2. Form a New Relationship With Food
The "Detox" phase is intended to cleanse the body of impurities resulting from bad eating habits. Drink lots of water to "flush out" the system and start anew with better food choices. Fruits and vegetables, brown rice, beans, soy milk and egg whites are among the foods allowed during this nine-day stage. Meat, fish, white potatoes, caffeine and alcohol are forbidden. It's not until the "Foundation" stage that you can add small portions of meat, fish, eggs, cheese and cereal. This phase continues for three weeks. During the "Construction" phase, you can eat whole-grain breads, whole-wheat pasta and slightly greater amounts of meat, fish and eggs. You can even treat yourself to a little dessert. The fourth and final stage, "The Temple," lasts for a lifetime or for as long as you're willing to follow the diet. You can continue eating plenty of the healthful foods you ate in earlier stages, plus some junk foods and drinks, such as French fries, pizza and wine, in moderation. Skipping meals during any of these phases is not allowed. The plan recommends eating up to five meals per day.
3. Amp Up Physical Activity
Exercise is a key component of the Fat Smash Diet. Start slowly by exercising for 30 minutes, five days a week. Then, increase the time with each phase, working your way to one hour daily. Mix up your routine with aerobics, walking or kickboxing to stay motivated.
4. A Diet With Disease-Fighting Benefits
The Fat Smash Diet is marketed as "the last diet you'll ever need." It encourages you to eat every three to four hours to remain satisfied and to avoid overeating. The diet also claims to keep away health problems away such as heart disease, diabetes and arthritis.
5. Experts Disagree
Dietary experts have differing views about the Fat Smash Diet. Some note that eating too many fruits and vegetables may have harmful effects, since everyone has different nutritional needs. There are also conflicting viewpoints about weight use during exercise. While the diet recommends weights during the later phases, experts recommend including them earlier in the workout to balance fat loss and increase muscle-toning.
