The 3-Day Quick Diet is often called a fad diet due to its promise of fast weight loss, which is claimed to be 10 lbs in just 72 hours. While on this plan calories are severely limited and participants follow strict guidelines for eating. Proponents of the 3-Day Quick Diet consider the program to be an efficient way to jump-start weight loss, while critics believe that the low calorie content, even for only three days, is not healthy.

About

The 3-Day Quick Diet consists of eating specific low-calorie meals for three days at a time. After the initial three days you are supposed to resume regular eating for the following four to five days before cycling back to the three-day diet plan again. Over the years there have been several different versions of diets lasting for just three days, and most are extremely similar to one another regarding content and structure.

Meals

The diet review site Every Diet offers an example of the 3-Day Quick Diet menu. Breakfast contains black coffee or tea, water, one slice of toast, one egg and one banana. Lunch may be black coffee or tea, water, 1 cup of cottage cheese and five Saltine crackers. And dinner consists of two beef franks or hot dogs, 1/2 cup carrots, one banana, 1 cup broccoli or cabbage, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream, water and black coffee or tea.

Water Weight

Due to the restricted calorie content while on the 3-Day Quick Diet, you will probably experience weight loss. However, it is believed that much of that loss is simply just water weight, due to the limited food and carbohydrate intake. The Diet Channel reports that successful long-term weight loss requires a sensible eating and exercise plan.

Grapefruit

Several versions of the three-day diet advocate eating half of a grapefruit or drinking a glass of grapefruit juice with every meal. Though grapefruit is a common diet aid and used in many pre-planned or commercial diets, the validity of its benefits are highly contested. Reports have shown that grapefruit can make a positive difference in weight loss efforts, according to a 2006 study conducted at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California, but researchers could also not explain how or why, so many believe that the low calorie content of grapefruits is what makes them diet friendly.

Fad Diet

The 3-Day Quick Diet is considered to be a fad diet --- the Diet Channel reports that participants are vulnerable to falling into a dangerous yo-yo diet pattern by following diets such as this. Though weight loss will probably be experienced, it mostly likely will be short-term and gained back once you start eating regularly again.
