How Many Calories Burned for 40-Minute Circuit Training?

Calories are the units of energy found in all the food and drink you consume on a daily basis. Circuit training, which usually combines aerobics and resistance training, is an effective, but intense form of physical activity that burns calories at a high rate and helps you lose weight and stay healthy.

The Calorie Equation

The Harvard Medical School determines the rate of calorie loss by considering your starting weight and activity level. If you weigh 155 pounds and spend an hour doing general circuit training, you will burn 596 calories. This equates to just under 10 calories a minute, or 397 calories every 40 minutes.

185 Pounds

If you weigh 185 pounds, you'll burn 710 calories every hour doing circuit training. This equates to 11.8 calories every minute, or 473 calories every 40 minutes. This would constitute a workout of high intensity and unless you're regularly completing similar sessions, you should restrict this level of workout to once or twice a week.

205 Pounds

NutriStrategy has an additional weight category for circuit training with minimal rest. If your starting weight is 205 pounds, you'll burn 745 calories every hour. This equates to 12.4 calories every minute, or 496 calories every 40 minutes.
