No matter how well you take care of your in-home treadmill machine, you won't be able to avoid the wear and tear that will slowly break down your treadmill's belt over time. Even high-quality belts stretch and crack with use, making them loose and less efficient. If not replaced, these belts can break or slip off the treadmill platform's rollers, causing damage to the machine and possibly the motor. You can pay a technician to come replace the belt for you, or you can do it yourself and save yourself the cost. Always turn off your treadmill and unplug it before starting any maintenance or cleaning.
Step 1
Undo the bolts on the flywheel cover. There are usually two to four bolts either standard bolts or Allen bots. Remove the flywheel cover.
Step 2
Loosen the screws on the back roller of the treadmill deck. Slide the roller forward, then loosen the screws on the front roller and remove it. Remove the back roller after the front roller is removed.
Step 3
Slide the treadmill belt off the platform.
Step 4
Apply any lubrication oil to the rollers or platform as directed by your owner's manual. Not all treadmills require lubrication.
Step 5
Slip the new roller onto the platform the same way the old one was removed. Reinsert the rollers inside the belt, then tighten the adjustment screws.
Step 6
Run the treadmill on its lowest speed setting and watch the belt. If it stalls or is unsteady, adjust the belt by tightening or loosening the screws at the rear. If it runs smoothly, the belt is working properly.
Step 7
Replace the flywheel cover and tighten the bolts.
