How to Dissolve Kidney Stones With Oil and Lemon Juice

Calcium oxalate kidney stones are the most common type of kidney stones. These stones are hard, crystallized calcium deposits. Their sharp, jagged edges make them difficult and painful to pass. A mixture of lemon juice and olive oil may assist you in passing these kidney stones, according to "1001 Home Remedies & Natural Cures: From Your Kitchen and Garden." Though the acidity in the lemon juice may partially dissolve the kidney stone, "Foundations of Nursing" says it is unlikely to entirely dissolve the stone, and the body most likely will have to excrete it.

No medical research supports olive oil and lemon juice as a treatment for dissolving kidney stones. Consult your physician before you try to treat kidney stones, or any other health condition, at home.

Step 1

Mix 2 oz. of lemon juice with 2 oz. of olive oil in a glass. According to "1001 Home Remedies & Natural Cures: From Your Kitchen and Garden," the olive oil will coat the kidney stone, allowing it to pass more easily.

Step 2

Drink the lemon juice and olive oil mixture once a day until the pain associated with the kidney stone eases. Do not drink this mixture for more than three days. If pain persists for three days or longer, immediately consult your physician again.

Step 3

Drink at least 64 oz. of water throughout the day. According to "Foundations of Nursing," it is essential you keep drinking to allow the kidney stone to exit your body.
