Scars on the face are often caused by burns, cuts, scrapes, piercings or acne. Though relatively harmless, those who have facial scars often feel embarrassed or self conscious about them. This is compounded by the fact that facial scars are typically more prominent than scars that occur elsewhere on the body. Measures can be taken to conceal and fade scars, but to completely eliminate scars requires more in depth procedures performed by dermatologists or plastic surgeons.
Step 1
Use a high-quality concealer to reduce the appearance of small facial scars. Apply the concealer onto the scar and blend it in with a cosmetic sponge or your fingers.
Step 2
Fade your scar with natural remedies or over-the-counter products. Go Ask Alice!, Columbia University's Health Q&A Internet Service, suggests using onion extract, silicone or products containing alpha hydroxy acids directly to the scar.
Step 3
Apply the fading product of choice directly to the scar. For best results, use the product consistently over the course of several months or until desired results are achieved.
Step 4
Schedule an appointment with your doctor to learn about more in depth scar removal procedures. Treatments include microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing and chemical peels. Facial scar surgery is available for larger scars, says the Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Surgery types include removing scar tissue it its entirety, skin grafting and Z-plasty -- moving the scar from one place to another.
