Many men typically experience some form of sexual dysfunction over the course of their lifetime that may require medical treatment. Common sexual disorders include erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and problems with libido. As men age, their risk for sexual dysfunction increases. The causes can vary and include stress, relationship issues and poor blood circulation. Herbs and vitamin supplements can help improve and restore sexual functionality and should be discussed with a health care provider.

Vitamins and Minerals

Certain vitamins and minerals can be particularly beneficial for men trying to improve their sexual functionality, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Vitamin C increases blood flow and may help bring more circulation to the sexual system. The recommended dose is 250 to 500 mg, taken up to two times per day. Vitamin E, B6 and zinc are nutrients that support hormone production. The recommended dose is 400 IU of vitamin E, 50 to 100 mg of vitamin B6 and 30 mg of zinc, taken daily. For cases that involve stress, taking a B-complex can improve sexual function. The recommended dose is 50 to 100 mg, taken daily.

Gingko Biloba

Gingko biloba has been used medicinally for centuries to increase blood circulation, and University of Maryland Medical Center recommends using it to enhance the sexual system. One of the causes of sexual dysfunction is poor flow to the sexual organs, which is required for arousal. A side effect you should be aware of is an increased risk for bleeding. The use of gingko biloba should be discussed with a qualified health provider.

Viramax

Viramax is a commercial product that claims to aid sexual enhancement, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Yohimbine, is the primary ingredient, which is the active compound in the traditional aphrodisiac herb yohimbe. The mechanism of action for yohimbine may be its effect as a genital blood vessel dilater, and the resulting increase of sensation to the genital region, according to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The other ingredients in Viramax include maca, muira puama and catuaba. There has been no scientific evidence that Viramax is an effective sexual enhancement supplement.
