Meal replacement strategy for healthy weight management involves a system that replaces at least two of your traditional meals with a meal alternative like a low-calorie shake, bar or cookie. These replacements are intended to provide essential nourishment and hunger relief, while emphasizing portion control and otherwise healthy eating habits. There are several popular meal replacement diets with different types of replacement foods. Consult your physician before starting a meal replacement plan.
Slim-Fast
SlimFast is a company that has sold meal replacement foods for over 20 years. It originally promoted its low-calorie shakes for breakfast and lunch, to be followed by a sensible, light dinner. Today, SlimFast offers more than just chocolate and vanilla shakes, as it now promotes the 3-2-1 plan. This plan is designed to include three 100-calorie snack bars, and two shakes or low-calorie, vitamin- and mineral-rich meal bars. The 100-calorie snack bars that do not provide the extra nutrients that the meal bars provide.
Dr. Seigal's Cookies
Another popular meal replacement program is Dr. Seigal's cookie diet. Dr. Seigal's products, which include both shakes and cookies, have been sold since 1975. Dr. Siegal purports to have developed a unique mixture of amino acids and other nutrients designed to keep you full while providing essential nutrition. Similar to the SlimFast plan, the cookie diet suggests that you eat six cookies or shakes during the day, then follow them up with a healthy dinner.
ProBar
Another alternative meal replacement food is the ProBar. The creators of these meal bars pride themselves on providing a completely organic and vegan-based food product. ProBar currently offers 18 different types of meal replacement bars from three different collections: Art's Originals, Sweet and Savory, and Fruition.
