You don't have to spend money to lose weight. You don't have to follow expensive diet plans, start gym memberships or purchase fancy equipment. Losing weight doesn't have to be a complicated affair. Take an old-fashioned approach to diet and exercise and you'll enjoy long-term and effective weight loss in a relatively short period of time, all of it free.
Step 1
Get outside and walk. Walking is one of the best all-around exercises you can do every day that will help burn fat, increase metabolism, and enhance cardiovascular health. Walking is free and you can go just about anywhere you please. Walk around your block, around the local high school track or find a nature trail in your area. Walking means walking fast or briskly, not strolling. You can stop and smell the flowers once in a while, and enjoy the benefits of fresh air, a brief escape from the office or responsibility and lose weight all at the same time.
Step 2
Turn on your television and find exercise programs that you can exercise to at home. Set your DVR or VCR to record these programs when you're at work or school and then do them in the morning before you go to work or when you get home.
Step 3
Make up your own exercise routines if you don't want to watch them on television. Write down a list of exercises like sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, squats, jumping jacks and any other number of basic calisthenics or aerobic exercise like jumping rope. Ask your friends to play tennis with you every week, or ride bikes through the park. If you feel you are up for it, go jogging. The more intense your workout, the more calories you will burn and the faster you will lose weight.
Step 4
Eat better to lose weight. You don't have to buy special foods for dieting nor do you have to join popular weight loss programs where you purchase pre-cooked and flash-frozen foods to nuke in your microwave to lose weight. When you go grocery shopping, choose healthy fruits and vegetables and lean meats, as well as skim milk and low- or non-fat dairy products, and leave the snacks on the shelves. Make sure you are eating an appropriate amount of calories--not too many and not too few.
