Brewed coffee at Starbucks includes their Bold Pick of the Day, Pike Place Roast and Decaf Pike Place Roast. All brewed coffees contain antioxidant phytochemicals called chlorogenic acids.
Specialty Coffees
Starbucks creates a wide range of specialty drinks, including many espresso-based beverages. A grande cafe latte, made with two shots of espresso and steamed whole milk contains 220 calories and 11 g fat. A caramel macchiato, made from espresso, steamed whole milk, vanilla syrup and caramel sauce, has 270 calories and 10 g fat. Starbucks also makes seasonal espresso drinks, such as the peppermint white chocolate mocha, available during the Christmas season, which has 500 calories and 15 g fat per 16 oz serving. Beverages containing milk typically have about 35 percent of the daily recommendation for calcium in a 16 oz serving.
Other Drinks
Hot teas available at Starbucks typically contain no calories or fat. A grande Tazo Chai tea latte at Starbucks, made with chai black tea and steamed whole milk, has 260 calories and 7 g fat. A Shaken green tea at Starbucks has about 80 calories and no fat. Teas contain a variety of polyphenol catechins, which may protect against cancer and heart disease and contribute to overall health.
Caffeine Content
A shot of espresso, the base for most Starbucks drinks, contains 58 to 75 mg caffeine, according to MayoClinic.com. A standard espresso-based beverage, such as a grande vanilla latte with two shots of espresso, contains about 150 mg caffeine. There is about 100 mg caffeine in a grande Tazo Chai tea latte. Brewed coffee from starbucks has 330 mg caffeine in a grande sized cup.
Additives
Adding milk, cream or sweetener to Starbucks beverages can change the nutritional composition, especially the calorie count of the beverage. According to MayoClinic.com, stirring in 1 tbsp of heavy cream can add 52 calories to a drink. Half-and-half adds 20 calories per tbsp and fat-free milk contributes 5 calories per tbsp. A tbsp of sugar increases the calorie count of a beverage by 49 calories.
