Obesity rates in Western nations are a primary concern for public health officials. In Great Britain, 23 percent of adults are clinically obese. Even more are considered overweight. These individuals' body mass index, or BMI, is high enough to cause health problems but not high enough to be considered obese. The Lipotrim diet was developed by Dr Stephen Kreitzman Ph.D, a registered nutritionist at the Howard Foundation Research Ltd. in Great Britain.
What is Involved?
Lipotrim is considered a very low-calorie diet. During the weight loss phase of the diet, all of your food is replaced by specially designed Lipotrim foods. The Howard Foundation claims that while these foods are very low in calories, they are nutritionally complete.
Weekly visits to your doctor or pharmacist are an essential part of the Lipotrim diet. At these weekly visits, your doctor or pharmacist will record your weight and take a urine sample to check whether you are following the strict diet and to ensure you are properly hydrated.
Availability
The Lipotrim diet is only available through general practitioners and selected licensed pharmacists in the U.K. and Ireland. It is not available online or over the counter due to the necessity of weekly visits to a doctor or pharmacist to monitor your weight loss.
Lipotrim Foods
During the weight loss phase of the Lipotrim diet, the allowed foods fall into three categories: drinks, soup, and flapjacks. The Lipotrim drinks are meal replacement shakes and are available in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavors. Chicken soup is the only flavor of soup available. The flapjacks are available in coconut and peanut butter flavor.
When you move into the maintenance phase of the Lipotrim diet, you can reintroduce common foods into your diet. Instead of meal replacements, you will eat a Lipotrim snack food before each meal. The snack will help you feel full before you begin your meal so that you eat fewer calories at each meal.
Diet and Lifestyle Coaching
Diet and lifestyle coaching is an important part of the Lipotrim diet. Your doctor or pharmacist will help you design a fitness program to follow during and after the diet and will offer encouragement and advise during your weekly visit. After you reach your weight loss goal, it is essential that you continue to follow a fitness plan and develop healthy eating habits to maintain your weight loss.
Effectiveness
According to Jean Brown of the Coleridge Medical Centre in Devon, UK, only 25 percent of patients maintained a significant weight loss on the Lipotrim diet. The rest regained weight soon after the diet was over. If you are highly committed to making the lifestyle changes necessary to maintain your weight loss, the Lipotrim diet is very effective in helping you lose a significant amount of weight. If you cannot follow the strict diet or make permanent lifestyle changes, it will not be as effective for you.
