Medical experts are not fans of colon cleanses. According to MayoClinic.com, there's no enough scientific evidence to justify their use. In many cases, colon cleanses can even be harmful, as they can cause dehydration or affect your electrolyte balance. If you want to try a colon cleanse, talk to your doctor to first so you can discuss the pros and cons of the process. Avoid very invasive procedures or strong herbal ingredients and instead start with a mild cleanse.

Step 1

Stock up on fruits and vegetables, preferably organic. Many detox diets, such as The Clean Diet and the Fast Track Detox Diet, promise to help you clean your colon by putting you on a diet of mainly juices or fresh produce. Decide in advance how long you will follow a detox diet. Some diets suggest a single weekend while others recommend up to 21 days.

Step 2

Eliminate all processed foods from your diet while you're doing a colon cleanse. Eat and drink only fruits and vegetables. The large intake of fiber will relieve constipation and help clear your intestines.

Step 3

Drink dandelion tea. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, dandelion has a number of health benefits related to the digestive system. For example, dandelion is a diuretic, it improves digestion, promotes gastrointestinal health and helps clean the liver and kidneys. Drink a cup of dandelion tea three times a day for best results.
